Tamila is the South Indian restaurant concept from founders Glen Leeson and former Roti King chef Prince Durairaj, championing the fragrant curries and buttery roti of Tamil Nadu, Prince’s home state in the southernmost tip of India. The duo also founded the acclaimed London pubs The Tamil Prince and The Tamil Crown, where they serve Prince’s favourite family recipes. Following the success of both pubs, they have most recently opened stand-alone restaurants in Clapham, King's Cross and Soho.

A menu inspired by the street food of Southern India's Tamil Nadu. Tamila's sharing feast begins with golden potato and green bean samosas, served with a sweet-yet-sour tamarind and date chutney for dipping. Next come the curries. Their signature Thanjavur chicken curry – a dish from chef Prince's hometown and a favourite with customers at their restaurants – is made with Tamila's own spice blend, roasted and ground in house. "It's my favourite dish of all time," Prince says. "I could eat it every day." Alongside it is a rich, smoky paneer butter masala, made with ripe plum tomatoes and a cashew butter sauce. They're served with fragrant spiced coconut rice and Tamila's famous puffed-up roti, another regional staple. The feast is completed with a summery pineapple and mango salad, finished with fresh coriander, chilli and lime dressing. "It's quite traditional," Prince says. "You'll find it sold on every street."
